My daughter joined cult

This blog is part of my review after watching the web series named 'My Daughter joined Cult ' as part of the thinking activity and related to our syllabus - 'The Wretched of the Earth ' by Frantz Fanon.

My Daughter joined a Cult:-

The three-episode series has been produced by VICE Studios and directed by Naman Saraiya. My Daughter Joined a Cult retraces Nithyananda’s meteoric rise and dizzying fall. The focus is firmly on his alleged crimes and the mystery of his current whereabouts.

Nithyananda is not the only one missing. The series begins with footage of Janardhan Sharma and his wife searching for their two daughters, who they believe are held against their will by the swami at his ashram in Ahmedabad. "I am very happy here. I am not kidnapped,” says Nanditha in a video call with the media, rejecting her parents’ claims. Sharma’s two daughters are yet to be found. While most of his former followers are busy critiquing him, Jansi Rani is one of the few to call out her follies. Rani’s 24-year-old daughter died of a heart attack in the ashram under mysterious circumstances. “He told us the sun rose because he appeared,” she says. “All of us were crazy.” Many continue to be under his sway watching his videos and supporting him as he hides in Kailaasa, a place few can pinpoint on a map and where the self-proclaimed ‘Paramashivam’ continues to preach.

The process of brainwashing :

Nityanand has the talent that he can guess what another person is thinking and that's how he predicts everyone's future and then controlled them by the name of worship of God  Shiva. He represents himself as the new birth of God and a kind of special person whose only purpose is to save the life of those people who are in trouble. The process of brainwashing and magic started in 2002 and then it's increasing day by day. When it started everyone was believing in him and do worship him, the minister, chief minister, government and celebrities also do worship him. He gave training called 'ADINIVASI'  and the purpose and motto of this training are to leave friends and family, 'GURU' is the only truth and the way to reach God. The first episode is about how it started and how it is going. 

CONCEPT OF BHAKTA:-

Nityanand has a kind of personality that he easily convinces people of what he wants from them. When it started everyone believes that he is the next birth of God but when Aarthi Rao the girl who slept with baba came out and tried to reveal the reality of baba everyone started blaming Aarthi instead of baba as reality is there but they aren't able to understand or believe in this. Baba started companies like - 'GALLERIA'- where people got everything related to baba. Nityanand 's lust for the power makes him strong and blind to power. People from another country came to meet Nityanand and stay with him for worship. 

When the series start at that time Nandita's parents tried to find her but when she got she denied to come back home as she is happy with Nityanand. So people who follow Nityanand can see the truth but they're not able to accept it as it was about baba. For them, Nityanand is 'ADHINAM'. As people of Kerala made him 'ADHINAM'  of their religion but as soon some truths came out about him people removed him from this post. People are ready to leave their families and parents too but they can not leave baba. If baba tortured them then also they want to stay with him. In so many cases we can say that baba tried to abuse many women but still, many women do believe in baba. When At the end of the web series many women are ready to leave India and go with the baba to another country for the sake of worshipping him. 

There are two groups of the people:-

1- Who blindly joins a cult and 2- Those who practically think and take action.  

Two members of the cult came from foreign names- Sudevi and Jordan both are big admirers of baba but when baba asks Sudevi to get physical with him she wasn't able to accept this side of baba and then she decided to leave this and spread awareness about baba. We can see in the series how social media became a kind of tool to reveal the reality of the things such as the video of baba sleeping with a girl and some videos about spreading their religion and power also. So in this, we can see that social media use for both the purposes positive and negative both. There is nothing like the locality of cities as baba has the talent to change his tone according to the situation. We can also observe that baba used the English language to impress people as people think baba knows everything. There we find English everywhere in newspapers, and news- channels and people of the cult also used the English language.

Followers of the baba blindly follow him in whatever circumstances. When CD became viral the baba still many people blamed social media or the girl but not baba as they emotionally or mentally surrender themself to baba. CD shows clearly that baba was the one who force the girl though people didn't accept it and started to support him and made him the 'ADHINAME' of Kerala. There are many reasons people have to follow baba, In starting when the women talked about baba they find baba as Shiv or someone who can understand them and take a stand for them. They thought that baba will always think good about us. And that's why they aren't able to accept baba's this look or side.

Frantz Fanon’s The Wretched of the Earth is a critical look at colonialism, the practice of taking political control of another country to establish a settlement and exploit the people economically. Colonialism began in Europe around the 15th century, and it is still practised today in some parts of the world. Fanon, a French West Indian from Martinique, a French colony located in the eastern Caribbean Sea, had a personal interest in colonialism, and his book focuses on the ways colonialism historically sought to oppress and subjugate much of the Third World through blatant racism and repeated violence. At the time Fanon wrote his book in 1961, many colonized nations were struggling for independence, and the damage of hundreds of years of racism and exploitation was acutely felt by many. The Wretched of the Earth serves as a sort of guidebook for understanding the colonized and their struggle, and in it, Fanon ultimately argues that colonialism, an inherently racist and violent practice, can only be overcome by using violence in return.

As Fanon believes that violence can only Stop by doing it back similarly people of the cult who came to know about the reality of baba believe that we can only expose baba by making him a fool as he made to all.

 Baba's followers are not only from the middle class but most of them are belonging to rich families and celebrities are there as they strongly believe in God and a kind of dogma. In reality, also We have many such examples in which celebrities are found with this kind of people and maybe sometimes happens that they do not believe in him but they do follow because they got many for acting like that as if celebrities do something then people or we can say fan do it.

For example the web series 'AASHRAM' in which we found that Kashipur vale baba who have many blind followers but he wants more and more followers so he appointed one famous singer for increased their followers and he gave him kind of rewards for helping him.

We have a long history of the baba who came and ruled for some years and then their reality came out and they got jailed but in the case of Nityanand we saw that he yet live freely in his own country named 'KAILASH' and he has many followers there. We have Babas like,  Asaram Bapu, the dancing preacher -Radhe Maa, the guru of bling – Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Narayan Prem Sai Asaram’s son and several others are there.

Fanon maintains that colonialism divides the world into light and dark—or in this case, black and white—in a process he refers to as Manichaeanism. In the series baba divided people into believers of non-believers. 

- Is the decolonization of this possible? Does it lie in atheism?

Yes, there is the possibility of doing decolonization of this but it's not about atheism it depends on the fact-checking process. It is not bad to believe in somebody or follow him but when another one is stating misuse of it one should stop it there. It's not about atheism but what is showing or what is a reality in one incident when CD got viral that time blind followers of baba didn't accept the reality of supporting baba for doing wrong as the followers of whatever baba did or doing good for society.
