Aristotle - Plato' idea about poetry

1)How far do you agree with Plato’s objection to freedom of expression and artistic liberty enjoyed by creative writers? Name the texts (novels, plays, poems, movies, TV soaps etc which can be rightfully objected and banned with reference to Plato’s objections)

Plato was opposed to poetry in particular he did not like the mimetic aspect of poetry - namely the poetry imitated the life. He thought that poetry take away  people from reality which is somewhere might be true because there was some serial and webseries which was not give right information about religion and univers it was completely imaginative for example there was one serial named BALVEER which is for children but completely fictional and children also starting in believe that thare was power which give us everything because I am also the part of those who believe that after praying God give us power to demand whatever we want so that point about artists I agreed to Plato that it take away people from reality.

after reading such supernatural elements and imaginative poetry or any art people start living in that manner. There was some advertisement which catch the attention of people and children and people start believing in them.

This one is about colddrink which was completely fictional and imaginative but child does not able to understand it and they starting such experiment at home which is might be harmful for them.

In my graduation i studied one tragedy by Shakespeare name is Othello in which protagonist of the play killed his wife due to some doubt and believed in his friend. There audience find feelings like  love, care , loyalty, jealous and guilt.

But Plato was compare philosopher and poet or artist. According to him people should know only philosophical thing by that people get awareness about reality of life , but that is not completely true artists also give knowledge of human life by their art. Philosophy - it is the not only way to give information of reality. There is some advertisement and serials which give information and take awareness in people by their art for example Crime patrol which aware to people about society and spread positivity of justice.

It is an advertisement of milk which aware children to drink milk which is good for them and healthy.

It is also completely fictional - imaginative though it is aware to people about pollution and other things so sometimes it is good and beneficial. Philosophy is good but that doesn't mean that Poetry isn't good.

2) With reference to the literary texts you have studied during B.A. programme, write brief note on the texts which followed Aristotelian literary tradition (i.e. his concept of tragedy, catharsis, tragic hero with hamartia etc)

According to Aristotle  TRAGEDY IS AN IMITATION OF AN ACTION THAT IS SERIOUS, COMPLETE AND OF A CERTAIN MAGNITUDE IN THE LANGUAGE EMBELLISHED WITH EACH KIND OF ARTISTIC ARGUMENT THE SEVERAL KINDS BEING FOUND IN SEPERATE PART OF THE PLAY.

During my B.A  i studied text 'All my sons'.
All My Sons is an American play, set in a typical, suburban town in the backyard of a family home. The Keller’s are a family who live a life of tension and un-realistic aspirations after losing a son at war. As the Keller’s try to live a normal life they are left struggling when they are left to face dealing with the consequences of their actions these lead to the central tragedies of the play.

Throughout the play the character introduce familiar faces, hard situations, memories both bitter and sweet, the first example of this is the morning after the thunderstorm, the Keller’s awaken to their memorial tree, has been torn down (which was planted in memory of Larry after he was lost at war). This gives the Keller family a rude awakening that Larry is probably gone forever; this is a tragic realisation for most of the Keller’s.

Obviously the main tragedies in this play include the horrendous crime that Joe Keller committed, killing many pilots which included the unfortunate murder of his son. This is a realisation that soon occurs to Keller which unavoidably leads to his Suicide. In regardless of Joe Keller being such a family man, he had caused such deceit not only to his family and to him self, but people all around him. He had caused too much deceit and hurt that he could no longer deal with blood left on his hands.

Chris and Joe Keller’s relationship contribute to the central tragedies of the play in a massive way. It proves that just because two people are related and share the same blood, does not mean they are compatible. And asks the question, do we really know our family? Chris spent years look up to his ‘hero’ of a father, however towards the end of the play Chris’s utter disappointment, aversion and almost hatred for Keller becomes apparent. This consequently leads to Keller’s revelation, “Then what is this if it isn’t telling me??? Sure, he was my son. But I think to him they were all my sons. And I guess they were, I guess they were.” This then leads to the final tragedy of the play, Keller’s abrupt suicide

The end of the text with the realisation of his crime and end of his life there were somewhere might be people feel that Chris should forgive his father because now he was guilty and audience also feels catharsis for the both Chris and Joe because both have tragic end.

3) Have you studied any tragedies during B.A. programme? Who was/were the tragic protagonist/s in those tragedies? What was their ‘hamartia’?

Yes , i studied one play during my under graduation name is Othello in which protagonist come to Tragic end.

Othello is the protagonist of the play - strong, powerful and loved to his wife.He was tricked into believing his wife had cheated on him. His suspicion then overpowered him and he murdered his wife in a jealous rage, never even giving her a chance to defend herself. When he discovers he was deceived, he remains a noble character. He realized everything was his own fault and punished himself by committing suicide. Now imagine the same story, but remove Othello's jealousy. He is unconcerned about a supposed affair and would certainly not murder his wife over it. Is there even a story anymore? Not a good one. In this case, Othello's hamartia, or internal tragic flaw, is his extreme jealousy. It is this jealousy that enables him to be tricked and allows him to create his own destruction.

It is shocking how Othello never doubts the doubtful, why he doesn't give a thought to Desdemona's innocence, and Iago's pretensions. He is imaginative when he should be keenly searching the truth. He sees vulgar visions of his wife in bed with Cassio instead of opening his real eyes. It is too late when he realizes what he has done. His "honest" Iago has made him blind and he knows he is now, a damned fool remembering "he that was Othello". The awakened, broken-hearted Othello rouses more anger than pity and fear at the end.
